Official Event Photographers and Videographers

Based in West Dorset, we are the official photographers for Bicton Arena and Chard Equestrian events.

ESP Photographic is owned by Ellen and Shane Pym, working with a key team of skilled photographers. Team ESP strives to capture those key moments to document your round or test. Enabling you to share and remember those achievements and memories.

Introduction:

“Mr ESP” Shane:

Shane's love of horses started during his early years at his parents riding stables where he also picked up a camera for the first time, snapping horses, dogs and people then developing and printing images in the bathroom which he had turned into a makeshift darkroom much to the rest of the family's consternation! Then life takes over and after time spent as diversely as running the family livestock transport business to becoming a publican, along with time spent working in Africa in between.

Shane found himself with time to pick up a camera again, and after completing an Open University course in digital imaging followed by freelancing with various event photographers he founded ESP-Photographic in 2012, with his first big break coming in 2013 when he added Bicton to the client list and now with servicing Chard Equestrian as well

Shane finds himself running one of the largest Equestrian Event photography teams in the West Country alongside his wife Ellen, and with the recent addition of Video services to the business proves that whatever else he is up for the challenge!

“Mrs ESP” Ellen:

Ellen spent her teenage years riding ponies and horses until pursuing a career in the aviation industry, all things equestrian were relegated to the back burner. While she forged ahead in business, that is up until she met Shane in 2001 at the Bottle Inn where they Married and Ellen took on the role of landlady up until 2008.

When a change in direction meant she returned to the aviation industry where, with her previous experience, she quickly rose through the ranks to global sales executive servicing contracts for prestige international customers and travelling the globe for work. And this is also where she acquired her qualification and membership of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

As the aviation industry ground to a halt due to the COVID pandemic, another change in direction and Ellen begun to get involved in ESP Photographic where she bought her business skills to the fore helping mould ESP into the force it is within equestrian imaging today.

What’s in the ESP Name?  Considering Shane started the business without Ellen involved, where did the initials ESP come from? It’s had a few connotations over the years

  • Equestrian Sport Photography, although with Photographic on the end, this is now a tautology…. Equestrian Sport Photography Photographic!
  • Extra Sensory Perception, this works with Photographic on the end but this maybe reaching for a higher place than we generally are (especially after a multiday show)

So maybe Shane had the Extra Sensory Perception that Ellen would join him in the business and the ESP name would forge forward under a family name.
